Velma Hemmelgarn
Velma M. Hemmelgarn, age 85, of St. Henry, died on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Briarwood Village, Coldwater.
She was born March 14, 1932 in Maria Stein, Ohio to the late Joseph & Rose (Knob) Berning. On August 02, 1952 she married Andrew N. Hemmelgarn in Maria Stein, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2011.
Velma is survived by nine children, Dave & Cindy Hemmelgarn, Connie & Merle Hein, Tim & Cindy Hemmelgarn, all of Coldwater, Ohio, Bob & Theresa of North Star, Ohio, Sharon & Carl Koesters of Maria Stein, Mark Hemmelgarn & Linda Grush of St. Henry, Larry & Lynn Hemmelgarn, of Maria Stein, Ohio, Bill & Deb Hemmelgarn and Brian & Candy Hemmelgarn, both of St. Henry, Ohio, Thirty one grandchildren, Jennifer & Thomas Hensley, Jason Hemmelgarn & Jill Threewits, Lisa & Nicholas Stammen, Renee & Adam Plourde, Jill & Brian Loughridge, Rob & Erin Hein, Michael & Kristen Hemmelgarn, Rachel & Aaron Burke, Krista & Ross Wellman, Emily & Rich Grillot, Katie & Seth Eilerman, Matt, Adam & Julie, Greg & Jennifer Koesters and Kari & Matthew Begley, Andrew, Claire, Monica, and Olivia Hemmelgarn, Kayla & Cory Otting, Kristen, Zach, and Alex Hemmelgarn, Caleb Hemmelgarn, Chase Hemmelgarn and Kate Niekamp, Connor and Calli Hemmelgarn and Liam, Samuel, Emma, and Ivy Hemmelgarn, 21 great grandchildren a brother, Uppie & Lucy Berning of Maria Stein, and in laws: Ann Berning of Minster, Gene Werling of Sidney, John Gardner of Dayton, Agnes Miller of Brookville, and Mary Ann Hemmelgarn of St. Henry.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Eric Hemmelgarn and Jodi Koesters, siblings: Cletus & Mildred Berning, Bob & Dorothy Berning, Joe Berning, June Werling, Theresa & John Baltes, and Irene Gardner, and in laws Marcella & Melvin Bailey, Flora & Cyril Dippold, Cyril Hemmelgarn, Cletus & Agnes Hemmelgarn, Urban & Clara Hemmelgarn, Ernest Hemmelgarn, Rita & Martin Harmuth, Betty Hemmelgarn, and Ralph Miller.
She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Rosary Sodality, and the St. Henry Legion Auxiliary. Velma was formerly a 4H advisor for the Buckeye Lassies and Lads, and she enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, quilting, and baking.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry, Ohio. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery, St. Henry.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 11, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home-St. Henry.
