Barbara Nelson
Barbara (Norwood Shideler) Nelson, 88, of Upland Indiana (formerly of Celina) passed away Saturday morning, May 5, 2018, at the University Nursing Center, Upland, Indiana, several days after suffering a massive stroke.
"Barb" was born to Donald and Ida (Fuhrer) Norwood on May 19, 1929 in their home on Grayston Av in Huntington, IN. She graduated from Huntington Township School in 1947.
Barb married Phillip F Shideler on September 11, 1948 at the Norwood family home west of Huntington. Phil and Barb had three children: Terry, Ronnie, and Tim. Phil passed away May 17, 1967.
She was also married to Robert D Warnick (Fort Wayne), and to Ralph W. Nelson (Edon, OH), both of whom are deceased.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ida Norwood, her step-mother, Margaret (Coolman) Norwood and brothers Wilbur Norwood, Robert Norwood, and Donald Norwood, Jr.
She is survived by her sons: P. Terry (Buford, GA), Ronnie (Fort Wayne, IN), and Tim (Queen Creek, AZ), brothers Jerry (Rowena) Norwood (Fort Wayne, IN), and John (Donna) Norwood (N. Manchester, IN). Also by grandchildren Aaron Leslie (NJ), Amy Shideler (OH), Phil Leslie (IL), and Reuben Shideler (MO); she is survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
She would want to thank Aaron Leslie and Reuben Shideler for looking after all her personal affairs in her last years. The family owes a great debt of gratitude to her nephew, Larry Winterholter and his friend, Laura, for their almost daily visits and support for her during her time in Upland.
Memorials should be made to the charity or cause of the donor's choice.
There will be no service at this time, per Barb's wishes. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Her cremains will be interred at the Lancaster Cemetery. Final arrangements are being handled by Myers Funeral Home, Huntington, IN.
