Paul graduated from Memorial High School in St. Marys in the class of 1979 and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in 1985. After graduation he worked at Cincinnati Bell for four years where he was video director/producer.
Paul was a lifelong farmer, the sixth generation on the family farm, and raised registered Black Angus cattle for over 40 years. He enjoyed showing them at many fairs and cattle shows including Hancock, Allen, Auglaize, Shelby, and Butler County Fairs, the Ohio State Fair, and the North American Beef Expo in Louisville, Kentucky.
Paul was a member of the Auglaize County Cattlemen's Association and was Cattleman of the Year in 1996 and 2009, the Miami Valley Angus Association where he served as president for two years, the West Central Ohio Angus Association where he served as president for two years, and the Ohio Angus Association where he served as secretary for four years.
He raised Angus breeding stock and sold them all over the U.S.A. as far away as South Dakota and Colorado. He had great joy riding his golf cart among his cattle and taming the babies so they were calm mature cattle.
Paul was a professional photographer and for many years photographed cattle for sale catalogs.
His love was playing the tuba, and he performed with several music organizations for many years including the St. Marys, Ohio, Community Band, the Grand Lake Symphony, and the Lima Area Concert Band. In high school he loved the St. Marys All Brass Band (SMABB) and played in the University of Cincinnati Marching Band. He designed the Sidey SSH Stainless Helleberg tuba mouthpiece and also collected and restored antique telephones.
Paul was a member of the Board of Directors of the Buckland Telephone Company and was instrumental in upgrading its technology.
He was a member of the Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys where he had been a trustee.
