August Gaier Jr.
August R. Gaier Jr., age 77, Fort Loramie, Ohio, passed away of natural causes at his residence Sunday, July 15, 2018.
He was born August 28, 1940, in Fort Loramie, Ohio, to the late August Sr. and Esther (Larger) Gaier. On September 21, 1963, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Minster, August married Carol (Anderson) Gaier who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Stacey & Steve Hilgefort, Todd & Denise Gaier and Shelly & Kevin Pleiman, all of Fort Loramie along with 13 grandchildren: Joel Hilgefort & fiancee Julie Hoying, Lindsey and Maeve Hilgefort, Jada and Josie Gaier, Brock, Aly and Braylen McCumber, Ethan, Owen, Anderson, Abram and Quinton Pleiman; six siblings: Ralph Gaier of Fort Loramie, Ted & Joanne Gaier of Fort Loramie, Richard & Sue Gaier of Minster, Rosemary & Jim Brussell of Fort Loramie, Kathleen & Joe Brinkman of Minster and LeRoy & Lucy Gaier of Minster as well as sisters & brothers-in-law: Kathy Gaier of Minster, Shirley & Ron Olding of Minster, Lila & Bob Briner of Dayton, Kathy & Greg Stricker of Minster and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two infant children, Kelly and Doug Gaier; four siblings: Tom & Norma, Bill, Jack & Dolores, infant Carl and sister-in-law, Marty Gaier.
Mr. Gaier was a 1958 graduate of Fort Loramie High School. He served in the Army National Guards in 1962 and over the years, maintained Certified Chrysler Mechanic credentials. He retired in 2008 from Gaier's C.D.J.R. Inc. where he had been part owner and master mechanic.
August was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Fort Loramie Athletic Boosters, Newport Sportsman's Club, Shelby County Crappie Club and the infamous Road Hawks. Jr. "Old Bluegill" was an avid fisherman and league bowler. He also enjoyed Redskin basketball and baseball, especially when his grandchildren were playing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, July 20, 2018, at St. Michael Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Steven Shoup presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
