Brian Haberkamp
Brian Lee Haberkamp, 57, passed away Friday October 19, 2018, in New Knoxville, after struggling for several months with lymphoma.
He was a graduate of New Knoxville High School and worked for many years at Airport Manufacturing. His primary career, however, was providing many years of care and assistance to his father, who contracted polio while serving in the military in World War II and later suffered from post-polio syndrome, and to his mother, who was afflicted with memory loss for the last six years of her life.
Brian's help enabled his father, Adrian, to continue to run his business even while bedridden, and for his mother, Marie, to enjoy most of her final years at home.
Brian loved music and driving late at night, which is why going to concerts, particularly those of the Grateful Dead, was the perfect combination for him.
He enjoyed jamming and improvising with friends, particularly if he could throw some percussion into the mix. He appreciated family-run restaurants that were not part of a chain, and he was a good cook himself, always insisting on fresh ingredients.
Brian was determined and stubborn, but extremely loyal, particularly to his friends and those he felt were seen unfairly at a disadvantage.
He is survived by his brother, Randy, several cousins, select friends, and many Waffle House waitresses whom he graced with generous tips.
Donations in his name can be made to WYSO Public Radio which he always hoped would expand its signal coverage to New Knoxville.
Remembrance hours will be from 5-7 pm at the Miller, Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, on Tuesday, October 23.
Condolences may be sent to Brian's family via Millerfuneralhomes.net.
