Ferdinand Wint
Ferdinand C. Wint, 80, of New Bremen, died at 6:45 P.M. on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen.
He was born on June 12, 1938 in New Bremen, the only child of the late LaVerne E. and Grace M. (Quellhorst) Wint. On April 12, 1958, he married Carol A. Huber, and she died on January 31, 1971. On August 2, 1973, he then married Kaye L. (Schmiesing) Winglewich who survives in New Bremen.
Also surviving are his children Cindy (Ken) Poeppelman of New Bremen, Michelle (Warren) Halbert of St. Marys, Timothy Wint of New Bremen, Todd (Kathy) Wint of St. Marys, Daniel (Victoria) Wint of Phoenix, AZ, Angela Wint of Winter Park, FL, Lynn (George) Imel of Greenwood Springs, CO, Julie (Mike) Oakes of St. Marys, Paul Winglewich of Minster, a son-in-law Brent Showalter of Lexington, KY; twenty-six grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Ferd was preceded in death by a son Matthew Wint and a daughter Christine Showalter.
Ferd was a 1956 graduate of New Bremen High School, and he was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen. He worked at the former STAMCO of New Bremen for many years a draftsman, and also owned and operated the former Esquire Clothing Shop in New Bremen and also the former Pop Shop in St. Marys.
Ferd was a family man who loved Christmas time when his whole family could be together. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he was well known for his piggyback rides.
He was a member of the former New Bremen Lions Club, the New Bremen American Legion Post 241, and was a member of the New Bremen Rod and Gun Club where he had served as the President and Vice President of the organization. He was one of the founders of the New Bremen Athletic Boosters and also helped to start the football program in New Bremen. In his spare time, Ferd enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, and he was also a good dancer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in New Bremen with Rev. Fr. Thomas Dorn and Deacon Greg Bornhorst officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date in the St. Augustine Cemetery of Minster.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen, and from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. on Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions in memory of Ferd can be made to the Autism Society of America or the Parkinson's Foundation.
