Luke Schmitmeyer
Luke B. Schmitmeyer, age 92 of Coldwater died Sunday December 2, 2018 at Celina Manor.
He was born May 2, 1926 in St. Sebastian, Ohio to the late Ben J. & Agatha (Albers) Schmitmeyer. On October 22, 1949 he married Mildred (Lange) in St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry, Ohio and she survives in Coldwater.
He is also survived by his children and spouses, Mark (Julie) Schmitmeyer, Versailles, Mary (Mike) Bruns, Chickasaw, Carol (Ted) Heckman, Minster, Paul (Carol) Schmitmeyer, Versailles, Ken (Carol) Schmitmeyer, Chickasaw, and Dale (Tina) Schmitmeyer, Coldwater; 30 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren with one deceased; siblings and in-laws, Sr. Lucille Schmitmeyer, Tiffin, Ohio, Eunice and Willard Dahlinghaus, Minster, Ohio, Hattie and Ivo Knapke, Versailles, Martin and Marie Schmitmeyer, St. Sebastian, Ella Mae and Roger Watercutter, Ft. Wayne, Alma Schmitmeyer, St. Henry, Helen Walterbusch, Coldwater, Alvira Albers, St. Henry, Evelyn Everman, Wapakoneta, and Marie York of Jupiter, Florida.
He is preceded in death by a son Joseph Luke Schmitmeyer; a great grandson Colin Heckman; siblings and in-laws, Evelyn (Louie) Bruns, Ernest Schmitmeyer, Marian (Greg) Evers and Lucille Schmitmeyer.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holy Name Society of the church, Coldwater Knights of Columbus Council 1991 and the Coldwater Eagles, and American Legion. Luke is a veteran of WWII, in the Pacific Theater (Phillipines). He was a lifelong dairy, swine and grain farmer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 7, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial with military rites in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 pm Thursday and 9 to 10 am Friday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Memorial donations will be forwarded to Fr. Gabriel's mission in Mexico. Contributions should be in care of Mildred Schmitmeyer.
