Neil Elam
Neil Allen Elam, D.D.S. age 67 passed away at 4:55 AM Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Grant Medical Center.
He was born November 18, 1951 in Celina, the son of the late Arthur Lawrence Elam and Lucile Edna (Johnson) Elam.
He graduated from Celina High School in 1969 and went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science from Wright State University in 1973. He taught Chemistry and Biology at Northmont High School for 3 years.
Neil went on to pursue a Doctorate of Dentistry and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1979. He practiced Dentistry at Community Dental for 38 years.
On December 15, 1986 he married Sheila Parrett of Grove City, who survives.
He is also survived by his daughter Marie (David) Valentine-Elam of Dublin; their son Shawn (Kyley) Elam of Grove City, Tony Parrett of Commercial Point, Tim (Julie) Parrett of Lancaster, and Amy Parrett of Grove City; 9 grandchildren who will miss him dearly; siblings Judy (Larry) Riesser of Tipp City, Dean (Kay) Elam of Springfield, Joy (Mel) Tindle of Indianapolis, and Jill (Art) Schaumloeffel of Indianapolis.
Neil was very active in the local Grove City Masonic Lodge No. 689 in the Blue Lodge Masonry, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Aladdin Shrine. He served as the 14th District Deputy to The Grand Master and received a 33rd Degree Mason's Award in the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed performing charity work through Masonry and Dentistry from the Heart.
In his spare time, Neil loved to go hunting, fishing, golfing, and camping-anything outdoors. He enjoyed carpentry and working with his hands, especially making birdhouses and birdwatching from his back porch. He was passionate about teaching and sharing his knowledge with others.
Neil had a large family and loved spending time with them, especially his children and grandchildren. He loved going to Hilton Head every year and making memories with his family that they would cherish for a lifetime. Neil was the kindest and most giving man. He would do anything in his ability and beyond to help anyone in need. It filled him with pure joy and happiness to give to others, especially his family and friends. Seeing them happy made him the happiest.
Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday at the Schoedinger Grove City Chapel 3920 Broadway Grove City.
A Funeral Service honoring Neil's life will be held 10 AM Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Grove City United Methodist Church 2684 Columbus St., Grove City. Rev. Dennis Mohler officiating. Interment at Grove City Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at 9 AM Saturday at Church followed by a 9:30 AM Jester Service.
