Janet Spencer
Janet Spencer, 80, of Saint Marys, died 3:25 A.M. Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement.
She was born May 28, 1938, in Jackson, Michigan, the daughter of Raymond and Dorothy (Simmons) Beckett. She married Charles Spencer on December 21, 1958, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 2004.
She is survived by her children: Laura (Don) Yelton of Saint Marys; Richard (Susan) Spencer of Saint Marys; Shawn (Shannon) Spencer of Findlay; Douglas (Andrea) Spencer of Saint Marys. She is survived by her grandchildren: Trey Yelton; Alex Spencer; Dex Yelton; Abbie Spencer; Logan Yelton; Chloe Tascoff; Scott Spencer; Sam Spencer; Howie Spencer; Charley Spencer; Lucy Spencer. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Kipton Yelton and Sophia Tascoff. She is survived by her siblings: James (Jerry) Becket of Saint Marys; Donald (Jean) Beckett of Columbus; Dorothy (Stan) Hirschfeld of Noblesville, Indiana; Helen Dershem of Columbus; Pat (Ken) Briggs of Saint Marys.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her siblings: Richard Beckett; Edward Beckett; Jack Beckett.
Janet was a 1956 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. She retired from Saint Marys City Schools, where she served many years as an administrative assistant.
She was a member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys. She had coached high school gymnastics; had served as treasurer of the Citizens for Saint Marys City Schools; had volunteered at JTDMH in Saint Marys; served as United Way Chairperson; and served as Sunday School Superintendent at Saint Paul's Church.
Janet loved to golf and play tennis, play bridge with friends, and had served as a poll worker for many years. She was all about serving and loving her family. She was awarded the Builder of Bridges Award in 2018.
Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, the Reverend Doug Wiliamson, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the church, where memorial gifts may be given to either Saint Paul's United Church of Christ or Grand Lake Hospice.
