George Romer
George H. Romer, age 78, of Celina, Ohio, died at his home on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 following a courageous fight against cancer.
He was born on October 12, 1941 in Lima, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Mary (Schoen) Romer. On July 15, 1963, he married Beverly S. Rhyne, who died on January 26, 2002.
He is survived by four children: Renee Romer and Robin Schaffner of Celina; Deb and Harold Farley of Wapakoneta; Jennifer Bruggeman and Glenn Roser of Celina; and Jon and Kelly Romer of Celina. Nine grandchildren: Jessica Romer and Josh Bales, Markie Rodriguez, Carly Rodriguez, Hunter Farley, Andrea Bruggeman, Leah Bruggeman, Matthieu Alloway, Grace Romer, and Hope Romer. Four great grandchildren: Bryson Mazur, Addie Dunbar, McKenna Dunbar, and Adrian Dunbar. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister-in-law - Tom and Pat Romer of Coldwater and Nick Romer of Celina - and a brother-in-law, Bill Knostman of The Villages, Florida.
George was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a great-grandson - Jace Mazur, and his sister, Cathie Knostman.
He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1959 and then Moler Barber School in Cincinnati. He owned and operated George's Barber Shop until he retired in August of 2019.
He was a member of: Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, Knights of Columbus Council #1800, Celina Eagles Aerie #1291, Celina American Legion Post #210, the Celina V.F.W. Post #5713, and Horseman's Association of Mercer County.
For 52 years, George sponsored a blanket at the Mercer County Fair. He was very involved with his community, coaching little league football for over 25 years in Celina and ACME Baseball in Celina for several years. He also hosted the Romer "I" Golf Tournament for 50 years. George was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Indians, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. "GO TRIBE!" and "GO BUCKS!"
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Ron Wilker officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina.
Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina. The Knights of Columbus Council #1800 will hold a membership service at 6:00 p.m Sunday.
