Thomas Hevlin
Thomas H. Hevlin, 93, of Saint Marys, and a resident of The Laurels at Shane Hill, Rockford, died 6:30 A.M. Sunday, January 12, 2020, at the Laurels.
He was born February 11, 1926, in Saint Marys, the son of Clyde H. and Nina (Bishop) Hevlin. He married Betty Lou Rain on December 16, 1950 at Wayne Street United Methodist Church in Saint Marys. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2010.
Tom is survived by a daughter, Carol (Greg) Smith of Celina; by two grandchildren: Megan Smith of Celina; William Hevlin of Ada. He is survived by a great-granddaughter, Ashley Hevlin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Mark H. Hevlin.
Tom was a 1944 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School and a 1949 graduate of Ohio University. Following graduation from Memorial High School, spent two years in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Superintendent of Postal Operations in Saint Marys following 30 years of service.
He was a life member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys. From September, 1951 to November 29, 1999, he was church organist at Saint Paul's. He was a charter member of the Lima, Ohio, chapter of the American Guild of Organists. He has also belonged to the Saint Marys Music Club and served many of its offices. He was also a proud member of the Honda Gold Wing Riders of America.
Both Tom and his wife, Betty, liked to travel, having visited 36 states and Canada by auto, train and motorcycle. Tom loved gardening, walking, playing cards, studying history, riding his Gold Wing and spending time with his family.
Graveside burial rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Elm Grove Cemetery, Saint Marys, The Reverend Rhonda Hanier, officiant.
Memorial gifts may be given to Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys.
