Anonymous donation pays for some lunches

By Tom Stankard
CELINA - An anonymous organization made a donation on Monday to pay off all outstanding school lunch accounts at Celina Primary School.
The organization wrote a check for $170 to the school cafeteria to pay off roughly 17 accounts that had charges or negative balances, principal Michelle Duncan told the newspaper.
"They just want to spread love and kindness to the students and our school," she said. "This just shows that it doesn't take much to make a change."
Duncan thanked the organization and said it's a wonderful thing for students not to have to worry about this.
"Sometimes all the parents need is a little bit of love and help to get them over the financial hump they might be facing," she added.
The school occasionally receives donations to help pay for lunches, she said. Primary school cafeteria staff feed all students lunch, regardless of their ability to pay for it, Duncan said.
"This does, at times, create issues for the school district. We all know that students cannot perform to their fullest potential if they are hungry," she added.
Earlier this month, St. Marys City School received an anonymous $1,800 donation to pay off all overdue lunch accounts for students in grades K-8. The donation was made in memory of Ruth Craft, who died on Aug. 21, 2017.
St. Marys superintendent Bill Ruane has said the donor had grown up in the city and appreciated how the community and school district had supported his success.
