Bonaparte's gull grabs dinner
Photo by Dan Melograna/The Daily Standard
This Bonaparte's gull flies with a shad in its bill after catching the fish along the south shore of Grand Lake in Montezuma Wednesday. The lake, which along with the St. Marys River is designated Important Bird Areas, is a hot spot for numerous waterbirds during spring migration. The Ohio IBA Program has served as a catalyst for community-based action to ensure the long-term stewardship and conservation of the state's diverse natural resources, according to the National Audubon Society.
