Minster man dies in 3-car accident

From staff reports
McCARTYVILLE - A 48-year-old Minster man died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a three-vehicle accident near the intersection of State Route 29 and Bornhorst Road in McCartyville, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
Terry E. Heitkamp was reportedly treated at the scene by a doctor and two nurses who witnessed the accident as they came up on the scene, a sheriff's office news release states. Heitkamp was transported by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital in critical condition. He reportedly died of his injuries while at the hospital.
At 5:20 p.m. Wednesday the sheriff's office received a report of the accident in northern Shelby County.
A white 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Heitkamp was stopped facing southeast on State Route 29 and attempted to make a left turn into a carry-out, the release states. A 2008 Pontiac G6 driven by Jonathon Craig, 48, St. Marys, and traveling southeast on State Route 29 reportedly failed to stop, striking the rear of the Cavalier and forcing it into the opposite lane of travel.
The Cavalier was then struck by a 2012 Jeep Wrangler driven by Jaymee Donovan, 42, Botkins, who was traveling northwest on State Route 29, the release states. All three vehicles reportedly sustained heavy damage.
Donovan reportedly refused medical treatment at the scene and was taken by private vehicle to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. Craig reportedly refused all medical treatment.
The accident remains under investigations. The release did not indicate if citations were issued or if those involved were wearing seatbelts at the time.
Shelby County Sheriff's Office, Van Buren Fire Department and Anna Rescue Squad all responded to the scene.
