West Bank Road work

A portion of West Bank Road is closed Tuesday during a project to rebuild the earthen west embankment. The section of road up to Monroe Road will reportedly be closed for a month or two as workers remove stumps and concrete and rebuild the slope to make it easier to mow and maintain. Crews are continuing work started four years ago when trees along the bank were removed, said Grand Lake St. Marys State Park director Dave Faler. The trees were removed as part of a statewide effort to protect the integrity of Ohio Department of Natural Resource's dams. Tree roots reportedly cause internal soil erosion and could increase the risk of a dam failure.
