Karen Dunn
On Oct. 19, 2020, Karen Wietholter Dunn passed away at the age of 78 after a 12-week illness with cancer.
Karen was born July 21, 1942, to Clarence and Helen Wietholter in St. Marys, Ohio. She married Kay Dunn in Bluffton, IN, where they lived on the family farm and raised their family until her husband's death in 1996.
In 2003, she moved to Gardendale, Ala., where she was an active community leader, Realtor, St. Vincent's hospital volunteer and member of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon UMC.
She is survived by her daughter Nicole Dunn Roberts and husband Michael Roberts, and by her son Mark Dunn and wife Bridget Dunn. She has three grandsons, Austin Roberts (18), Luke Roberts (16) and George Dunn (7).
She is reunited with her late family members: her parents, her husband Kay, brother Ron Wietholter, and stepsister Becky Luedeke.
Surviving family members include stepsisters Delores Kittel, Barb Fogel, Judy Henry; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen has humbly requested her body be donated to science. She has also requested that there will be no memorial service. Instead, she wishes the following: Please remember Karen as you have always remembered her. Wherever your journey may have crossed, make that where you hold Karen in your heart. However she touched you, pass that light on to others.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her memory to Gardendale-Mt. Vernon UMC (gmvumc.org) or to Spencer Cancer Center of EAMC through the EAMC Foundation (eamc.org).
Her children Nicole and Mark welcome cards and notes of memory. These may be sent to Michael and Nicole Roberts, 900 5th Ave, Opelika, AL, 36801, or to Mark and Bridget Dunn, 32-85 37th St., Astoria, NY, 11103.
