Jeanne Sprague
Jeanne Ellen (Van Gundy) Sprague, age 75, of rural Rockford, passed away at 5:30 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2020, at her residence.
Born June 25, 1945, in Van Wert, she was the only daughter of the late Kenneth Eldred & Margaret Evelyn (Fisher) Van Gundy.
Jeanne and James Michael Sprague were married on October 16, 1966. The couple's ceremony was the last wedding and reception to be held at the former Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in Union Township.
Her husband, Mike preceded her in death on March 13, 2018. Also deceased is their infant son, Johnny James Sprague, and Jeanne's brothers: James, George, and Ralph Van Gundy.
Surviving are her daughters: Nancy Sprague of Rockford and Toni Sprague of Spencerville, grandchildren: Katlyn, Cody, Shayla and Hailey, great granddaughter, Clarissa, her brother, Dave ( Debi ) Van Gundy, of Celina, sisters-in-law: Andrea Van Gundy, Rosa Van Gundy and Betty Koch, and brother-in-law, George ( Marie ) Sprague.
A 1963 graduate of Mendon-Union High School, Jeanne served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Mendon Alumni Association for a number of years.
She had been a clerk-typist at the Welfare Department in Celina, a teller at the Mendon bank, and worked for Jake's Fine Foods, Antiques and Interiors in Mendon.
Jeanne was an active member of Mendon United Methodist Church, where she and Mike had also served as custodians for many years.
Following their retirement, Jeanne and Mike enjoyed traveling and taking bus tours. Some of her pastimes included photography, crocheting and reading. Jeanne was known for making and sending out numerous greeting cards to friends and family for all occasions.
Calling Hours are from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 19, at W.H. Dick & Sons-Hellwarth Funeral Home in Mendon, followed by the Funeral Service, beginning at 1:30. Pastor Rob Glenn will officiate. Burial is at Tomlinson Cemetery, in Union Township.
Those attending are required to wear masks, practice social distancing as much as possible, and follow the COVID-19 guidelines established by Governor DeWine and the Ohio Department of Health.
