Virgil Krieg
Virgil J. Krieg, age 89, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, died peacefully December 4, 2020 at his residence.
He was born December 13, 1930, in Fort Recovery, to the late Leo and Alfrieda (Muhlenkamp) Krieg. On May 1, 1954 in St. Anthony, OH, he married Roselma "Rosie" (Knoth) Krieg, who survives.
Also surviving are eight children, Betty (Charles) Muhlenkamp of Bryant, IN, Roger Krieg of St. Henry, Sharon (Joe) Metzger of Fort Recovery, Nancy (Randy) Wuebker of Fort Recovery, Jerry (Lisa) Krieg of Lima, Judy (Kenny) Thien of Fort Recovery, Janet (Mark) Jacobs of St. Henry, and Margie (Jerry) Jacobs of St. Henry; five siblings, Lucy Rose of Celina, Marlene (Ron) Schmitz of Miamisburg, Harry (Pat) Krieg of Fort Recovery, Marie (John) Sacher of Celina, and Karen Bergman of Yorkshire; twenty-four grandchildren and forty-three great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Ralph (Kathleen) Fullenkamp of Fort Recovery, and an in-law, Lou Ann Knoth of Coldwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, John, infant twins Ron and Ruth; siblings, Elsie Gerlach and Onalee Fullenkamp and infant siblings, Eugene and Kenneth; brothers-in-law, Robert Gerlach, Carl Rose and Don Bergman; and in-laws, Cletus Knoth and Armella (Nelson) Mangen.
After graduating from Coldwater High School in 1948, Virgil served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from the Fort Recovery Equity and managed the Fort Recovery American Legion for twenty-one years.
Virgil was a member of the American Legion Post 345 and Past Commander and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6515, and Past Grand Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3324, all of Fort Recovery. He also belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, Celina, OH. and had been active in the Fort Recovery Chamber of Commerce, Gun Club and Ambassadors. He was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church Fort Recovery.
Virgil served hundreds of farmers over the years at the Equity and worked countless nights at the Legion, attending to the crowds and keeping the dance floor dry! Virgil loved people and life! He was a great Dad! Together he and the love of his life, Rosie, raised eight strong children. Virgil's light hearted, good nature, has wonderfully influenced them and their grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid card player, Cincinnati Reds fan and supporter of community events.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery, with Fr. Ned Brown as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Fort Recovery. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Fort Recovery American Legion. All CDC guidelines will be followed during the Mass which will be live streamed at www.fortrecoverycatholics.org/streamspot/.
Calling is 3:00 pm-7:00 pm Wednesday and 9:00 am-10:00 am Thursday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio. Masks are required to be worn during the visitation and CDC guidelines will be followed.
