Thomas Albers
Thomas L. Albers, age 89 of Minster, Ohio formerly of Egypt, died Friday, December 18, 2020 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1931 in Egypt, Ohio to the late Frank & Mathilda (Schmitmeyer) Albers Poeppelman. On September 12, 1953 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Tom married Margaret (Guggenbiller) Albers. She survives in Minster.
He is also survived by five children: Joan & Joseph Borchers, Versailles, Steve & Deb Albers, Minster, James & Amy Albers, Fort Loramie, Donna & Gary Borges, Minster, Teresa & Christopher King, New Albany, 16 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren, one sibling: Carl & Alvira Albers, St. Henry, brothers & sisters-in-law Angela Albers, Sidney, Dorothy Guggenbiller, Ft. Recovery, Gerald & Helen Miller, Decatur, IN Eugene & Alfrieda Guggenbiller, St. Henry, Alvin Lochtefeld, Chickasaw, Martin & Marie Schmitmeyer, Celina.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Thomas Albers, Jr., David Albers and two infant children: Joseph & Mary, stepfather Clem Poeppelman, brother Bernard Albers & sister Ruth Holthaus, brothers & sisters-in-law, Bernard Holthaus, Delores & Leonard Luttmer, Norman Guggenbiller, Thelma Guggenbiller, Mary Ann Miller, Lucille Schmitmeyer and Marceil Lochtefeld.
Tom was lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Egypt, a member of the Men's Sodality and the Orphan Society. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #2158, F.O.E. #1391 the Cataract Fire Department, and the Egypt Community Club. He served as a board of director of the Minster Farmers Co-op. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, serving most of his time in Germany. He was a member of the Minster American Legion #387 and the Minster VFW where he served on the Honor Guard for Military funerals. He was also retired from farming. Tom loved traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially the coffee groups at McDonalds and Marathon.
Due to the COVID 19 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster for more room for social distancing. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Egypt.
Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 and from 9 to 9:30 AM on Wednesday. Visitors are asked to follow CDC guidelines of wearing masks and social distancing.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the St. Joseph Church, Egypt, and The Mission Commission of the church.
