Marie Eiting
Marie Redmond Eiting, age 90, of Portland, Oregon passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 9, 2021 surrounded by her beloved family.
She was born in Russia, Ohio on January 25, 1931 to the late John and Loretta (Cordonnier) Redmond. On February 5, 1952, she married the love of her life, Jack Eiting, at St. Remy Church in Russia.
She is survived by her husband, Jack, and her five children, Liz Eiting and husband Dr. Ron Schutz, John Eiting and wife Marie Andrée Eiting, Trish Eiting and husband Rudy Chapa, Carrie Eiting VanRoekel and husband Steve VanRoekel, and Kate Eiting. She also leaves behind her dear grandchildren, Luke Goebel (Ottessa Moshfegh), Marie Goebel (Kurtis Saldivar), Dr. Joaquin Chapa (Ari Lambie), Annaliese Chapa (Eiji Jimbo), Alma Chapa (Ed Walters), Alberto Chapa (Romy Messak), Juan Chapa (Sheilly Valenzuela), John Frederick Eiting (Kelsi Crow), Madeleine Eiting, Katie VanRoekel, Ellie VanRoekel and Sylvia VanRoekel.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Carl Goebel. Marie was also blessed by three beautiful great-granddaughters, Cannela, Mariel, and Celia Chapa. Marie was the fourth daughter of John and Loretta. Her sisters Florence Schwartz, Helen Redmond, Dorothy Redmond, and Patricia Schwartz, all preceded her in death. She was also blessed with one brother-in-law, James (Esther, dec.) Eiting, and two sister-in-laws, Janice (Frank) Brinkman and Jude (Luke) Schmieder, both of whom are deceased. Marie also was graced with 28 nieces and nephews who enriched her life greatly.
Marie lived a life full of love and action, always in the service of others. She was an accomplished businesswoman, passionate philanthropist, and adored matriarch. She loved her family, who she always put first, and with the strength of her faith, she changed many lives. She will also be remembered for her wit of the Irish to spin a yarn.
Friends and family may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster, Ohio from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, May 13, 2021. The family looks forward to welcoming those who loved her to honor Marie's life. Visitors are asked to please wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines.
For family only, a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at the Maria Stein Shrine of the Holy Relics Chapel. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
