Boy, 3, drowns in pond on his birthday

WAYNE TOWNSHIP - A child reportedly drowned on his third birthday Friday evening, according to a news release from the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 12:06 p.m. Friday, Wayne Township emergency medical services were dispatched to a residence in eastern Wayne Township. The call reportedly was for an unresponsive child who was found floating in a pond. The caller reported CPR was being performed.
Officials from Wayne Township Fire Department, Wayne Township and Indian Lake EMS, Waynesfield Police Department and Auglaize County Sheriff's Office all responded to the scene. The child, Austin R. Smith, was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The boy lived in Burkburnett, Texas, and was visiting family for the weekend.
No foul play is suspected according the release, which called the incident a "tragic accident," but it remains under investigation.
No further comment from the sheriff's office could be made at this time, according to the release.
