Multiple fire departments were called to this fire at 128 Lakewood Court in St. Marys Friday afternoon.

ST. MARYS - An estimated 50 firefighters from multiple departments on Friday afternoon fought to extinguish a blaze that left a home destroyed and a family displaced.
Firefighters at about 2:30 p.m. responded to a house fire at 128 Lakewood Court in St. Marys. At least two people were home when the fire started. They managed to escape, reportedly unharmed, according to firefighters at the scene.
Heavy smoke could be seen pouring from the fire-damaged roof.
One dog perished in the fire, but another made it out with the residents, a firefighter said.
The fire started in the basement before spreading to other corners of the house, St. Marys Township Fire Chief Chad Hicks said at the scene.
Hicks could not be reached Friday evening for an update.
St. Marys Township, St. Marys, New Knoxville, New Bremen and Montezuma fire departments dispatched trucks and personnel to the scene, Hicks said. Auglaize County CERT, a volunteer organization though Auglaize County Emergency Management Agency, also assisted at the scene.
Auglaize County CERT offered an update on the fire on its Facebook page Friday.
"Our TEAM was requested by St. Marys Twp Fire this afternoon to provide immediate assistance to a family that has been displaced from their home due to a fire that was a complete loss," the post reads.
The post provided a list of clothing items being requested for the displaced family. It also indicated that Auglaize County CERT was accepting gift cards, personal care items and money directly through its Venmo account.
Go to CERT's Facebook page for a complete list of items needed by the family.
