McGlothen earns top honors

St. Marys' Karsyn McGlothen was named the WBL co-Softball Player of the Year on Monday.

St. Marys senior Karsyn McGlothen and Wapakoneta junior Allie Wilson were named the Western Buckeye League co-Softball Players of the Year by the league coaches as the WBL released its softball and baseball honors on Monday.
McGlothen, who set the school records for season and career strikeouts this past week, is 12-6 on the season with 200 strikeouts and an earned run average of 1.12. In 119 innings, the University of Northwestern Ohio-bound McGlothen has walked just 21 batters and has a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 0.82. McGlothen also leads the team with a .455 batting average with five home runs and 20 runs batted in.
Wilson, an infielder, helped the Redskins win an outright WBL title with a 9-0 record.
Celina's Peyton Bertke earned first team All-WBL honors. Second team honors went to Celina's Karissa Frederick and St. Marys' Renee Sweigart. Celina's Sydnee Davis and St. Marys' Bailey Weigel were named to the third team with honorable mention accolades being awarded to Celina's Sarah Giesige and St. Marys' Makenzie Henning.
Coach of the Year honors, automatically given to the coach of the league champions, went to Wapakoneta's Bill Sammons.
In baseball, Defiance junior David Jimenez was named the league's Player of the Year. An outfielder and pitcher, Jimenez is 5-1 with a 1.58 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. At the plate, Jimenez is batting .338 with 26 runs, five doubles, four triples and 17 RBI.
Celina's Quinn Andrew earned first team All-WBL honors in the coaches' vote. Teammate Dylan Feister was a second team selection while on the third team, Celina's Jack Hassan and St. Marys' Cole Koenig earned honors. Celina's Nick Steinbrunner and St. Marys' AJ Dieringer and Ty Kiehl were named to the honorable mention.
Defiance coach Tom Held received the league's Coach of the Year award for leading the Bulldogs to an outright WBL title.
