The Coldwater Cudas summer swimming and diving team successfully defended its Tri-County championships after cruising to a big win at the championship meet on Saturday at Coldwater's Memorial Park.
The event was delayed by several hours due to the rain Saturday morning, but once action got underway, the Cudas, who won the diving meet a week before, cruised to victory, tallying 964 total points, 206 points ahead of the runner-up St. Marys Seahawks. The Troy Dolphins came in third (661 1/2) with the New Bremen Barracudas (366 1/2) finishing fourth, St. Henry Stingrays (261) fifth, Celina Dolphins (159) sixth and Tecumseh Woods (101) seventh.
Coldwater's Kingston Roessner had a big day, breaking two meet records in the boys' 9-10 year-old division, bettering his own mark in the 25-yard backstroke and then breaking the 25 freestyle record set in 2005 by Zach Dickman. Roessner also won the individual medley and swam legs of the winning 100 medley and 100 freestyle relays.
Graycen Luebke also picked up two individual wins for the Cudas in the 9-10 girls 50 freestyle and 25 breaststroke while Heidi Bruns won the IM and 50 breaststroke in the 15-over girls class. Also winning two events for the Cudas were Izzy Byer (15-over girls 50 free and 50 butterfly) and Griffin Luebke (15-over boys 50 butterfly and IM). Earning individual wins for Coldwater were Louis Reichert, Celly May, AJ Steinbrunner and Carlee Goodwin.
