Thomas McCarthy
Thomas P. McCarthy, 94, of St. Marys, died 12:15 A.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Grand Lake Healthcare Center, St. Marys.
He was born January 7, 1928, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, the son of Frederick and Stella (Rall) McCarthy. He married Joanna Orians on April 23, 1953, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Upper Sandusky; she survives in St. Marys.
He is also survived by his children: Maureen (Andrew) Huber of Livonia, New York; Kevin (Robert) DiBartilomeo of Streamwood, Illinois; Allen McCarthy of St. Marys; Bridgett Sievert of St. Marys; Neil McCarthy of St. Marys; Gary McCarthy of Brownsburg, Indiana; Ryan (Bianca) McCarthy of Portland, Oregon. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; by a brother, Charles McCarthy of Upper Sandusky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Edgar McCarthy by two sisters: Rosemary McCarthy and Rebecca Kinn Wiens.
Tom was a 1946 graduate of Carey High School. He spent a total of 13 years studying at Mount St. Francis Seminary in St. Francis, Indiana, and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1963. He had also served in the US Army. He was a longtime teacher and principal for the St. Marys City Schools, and also Holy Rosary Catholic School. Tom also spent more than 30 summers as the manager of the St. Marys City pool.
Tom was very involved with the ARC of Auglaize County and Auglaize Industries. He enjoyed riding his bike, cooking and teaching CCD to students at Holy Rosary and Holy Redeemer Catholic Churches. He mowed lawns around St. Marys and donated the profits to the Parkinson's Foundation for many years, and he also mentored students. He was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, Father John Tonkin, celebrant. Burial will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Carey, Ohio.
Friends may call from 5-7 P.M. Monday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to either the Friends of Holy Rosary School, Auglaize County ARC or the St. Joseph Cemetery Foundation.
