The St. Marys girls bowling team reached the championship round of the Division II state tournament on Friday, but lost in the quarterfinals at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl to end their season.
The Roughriders finished qualifying with a score of 3,076, earning the sixth-seed in the eight-team championship round.
St. Marys faced Conotton Valley, which finished third in qualifying in the quarterfinals of the best-of-five baker game match-play format. Conotton Valley won the opening game 200-193. In game two, the teams were tied at 169, forcing a two-frame roll-off. The teams tied 16-16 after the first tiebreaker, sending the overtime into sudden death before Valley took the second tiebreaker 37-36 to take the second game, then won the third game 186-164 to sweep the match and end the Roughriders' season.
Chloe Gibson finished 20th overall in the individual standings with a 563 series. Kayla Homan bowled a 546 to finish 28th with Ella Kable finishing 30th with a 539.
New Bremen, making its first-ever trip to state, finished 14th in qualifying to end its season after bowling a 2,709. Sophomore Marina Nelson earned second-team All-Ohio honors after tying for seventh in the individual standings with a 589 series.
Versailles missed the championship round with a ninth-place finish of 2,936, just 77 pins fewer than eighth-place Sandusky Perkins. Emma Billenstein led the Tigers with a 529 series.
Napoleon freshman Arianna Kiessling was state individual medalist with a 674 series. Fort Loramie's Kaylee Bruggeman earned All-Ohio honorable mention with a 580 series.
The boys Division II state tournament featuring Coldwater, Minster and Versailles began this morning.
The Celina girls bowling team wrapped up its season with a fourth-place finish in the district tournament held at Star Lanes on the Harbor in Port Clinton.
The Bulldogs finished with a final tally of 3,272 pins. Wapakoneta won the district title with a 3,630 to claim the lone team qualifying spot.
Chablis Krick led Celina with a 512 series to finish 10th in the individual standings. Amielle Abner was 11th with a 510 and Marissa Hole finished 23rd with a 466.
