Richard Alig
Richard 'Dick' L. Alig, age 88 of Coldwater died July 24, 2023 at Briarwood Village in Coldwater.
He was born January 15, 1935 in Jay County, Indiana to the late John W. Alig and Hilda P. (Droesch) Alig. On February 9, 1957 he married Jeanette Wellman who survives in Coldwater.
Other survivors are three sons, Steve (Mary Jo) Alig of Celina, Ralph (Diane) Alig of Coldwater, Charles 'Chuck' (Lisa) Alig of Coldwater. Three daughters, Barbara Uhlenhake, Nancy (Eric) Muhlenkamp, and Connie (Brian) May all of Coldwater, 19 Grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; siblings and in-laws, Rosemary Heitkamp of Coldwater, and Marceil Alig of Portland.
He was preceded in death by son-in-law, Gary Uhlenhake, granddaughter, Jessica Muhlenkamp; siblings, Jerome Alig, Ralph Alig, Donald Alig, Joe Alig, John Alig, Bernice Buehler, Dorothy Hein; infant sister, Viola Alig; and in-laws, Arthur Buschur, Gregor Hein, Elmo Buehler, Edgar Heitkamp, Vera Alig, Evelyn Alig, Mildred & Melvin Brunswick, Norbert & Julianna Wellman, Cletus & LouAnn Wellman, Lavern & Norma Wellman, Wilma & Jim Pfeffenberger, and Doris & Dennis Grieshop.
He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during the Korean War. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 470 in Coldwater. He was a member of the Coldwater Eagles 3035 and the Coldwater Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater and the Men's Sodality. He was a past president of the Ohio Employment Retirement System of Mercer County(OPERS). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed watching and supporting all the activities of his children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Coldwater.
Friends may call on Thursday from 3PM to 8PM and on Friday from 9AM to 10AM at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Coldwater. Burial with military rites will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coldwater.
