Lois McDermitt
Lois E. McDermitt, 91, formerly of rural St. Marys, OH died Monday July 31, 2023 in Rensselaer, IN.
She was born August 22, 1931 in Spencerville, OH to Lester J. and Frances Irene (Miller) Reeder. On August 6, 1949 in Spencerville, OH she married Robert E. McDermitt, who died November 14, 2008.
Survivors include: daughter Denise (Tom) Wissman; son Nicholas (Michele) McDermitt; 4 grandchildren: Sadye Rose (Jason Houston) Wissman, Nicole Hanen, Jace (Jennifer) McDermitt, Jeremy McDermitt; 5 great-grandchildren: Lucas and Erin Hanen; Emersyn, Adleigh and Annalise McDermitt; brother Larry (Vicki) Reeder and family; sister Judy Rex and family; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by: parents Lester and Frances Reeder; husband Robert E. McDermitt; son Dennis McDermitt; grandson-in-law David Hanen; brother-in-law Jim Rex.
She was a graduate of Spencerville High School (Class of 1948). She retired from JTDM Hospital in St. Marys, where she worked as a unit clerk in the emergency department. Earlier in life, she worked at the St. Marys Cotton Mill. Known as the "Herb Lady", she sold natural remedies to area residents for many years. Lois will be remembered as an outgoing, hard-working woman. She had a true appreciation for nature and loved flower gardening and living in their "home in the woods."
Rites are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Pastor John Medaugh will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon on Monday at the funeral home.
