Dolores Nieport
Dolores Nieport, age 95, of St. Henry, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023, at The Gardens of St. Henry.
She was born February 15, 1928, in Sharpsburg to the late Urban & Mary (Braun) Abels. On February 15, 1949, in Sharpsburg she married Anthony Nieport and he preceded her in death on April 19, 1999.
She is survived by her children, Sharon & Steven Heitbrink of St. Sebastian, Steven & Lucy Ann Nieport of St. Henry, Janet & Bob Heeke of Lake City, Florida, Jerry Nieport of St. Henry, and Judy & Ron McCoy of Emporia, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, Greg & Virginia Heitbrink, Mike & Jamie Heitbrink, Carin (Rindler) & Ryan Osterfeld, Katie Heyob, Matt & Katie Nieport, Joe Heeke, Will Heeke, Doug Nieport, Brian Nieport, Scott & Karen McCoy, Melissa & Dave Veatch, and Bryan & Courtney McCoy; 18 great grandchildren; siblings and in-laws, Paul & Roberta Abels, Nancy Abels, and Marlene Abels.
Dolores was preceded in death by a son, Ernie Nieport; her grandaughter's husband, Kyle Rindler; siblings and in-laws, Elmer & Delores Abels, Ralph & Delores Abels, Joan & Marion Neargarder, Walter & Marceil Abels, Carroll Abels, Eugene Abels, James Abels, Mary Jane & David Larger, Rose & Ed Zumburge, Joseph & Gertrude Nieport, Alberta & Albert Weitzel, and Bernadette & Roman Lochtefeld.
Dolores was a member of the St. Henry Catholic Church, the St. Ann's Rosary Altar Sodality, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an employee of the St. Henry School Cafeteria for 25 years. Dolores had a soft spot for dogs, especially Schnauzers, and shared her home with them for many years. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, and collecting and displaying seasonal glassware. She also found great joy in sewing and gifting personalized pillows, aprons, and potholders for her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at St. Henry Catholic Church, St. Henry. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday August 29th 3 to 7 pm and 9 to 10 am on Wednesday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dolores' name to the Animal Protection League of Mercer County https://aplmercer.com/donate or a charity of one's choice.
