Jack was born on October 8th, 1930 in Minster, Ohio, the oldest of four children. He was raised on S. Hanover Street until he entered St. Gregory's Seminary at thirteen. Ultimately, Jack was to find his true calling as a husband (and father and grandfather) industrialist, and humanitarian. He met his lifelong love the summer after graduating from Minster High School (class of 1948), and then went on to study mechanical engineering at the University of Dayton. On February 5th, 1952, he married Marie Redmond at St. Remy Catholic Church in Russia, Ohio. Together they would raise a beautiful family of five children. Upon graduation from UD, Jack enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Detrick in Baltimore, Maryland. After completing his years of service, the Eitings returned to Minster and Jack began his career in the metals industry at Stamco, eventually becoming President. In 1977, Jack took what he learned at Stamco to Precision Strip Inc., the company he founded with his wife Marie and three key Stamco employees (Donald Craft, Tom Wente, and Joan Eilerman). From the very start, PSI was rooted in the principles of excellent service to customers, valuing employees, and in-house, sea-change advances in engineering. Under Jack's leadership, PSI became the nation's largest toll processor of metal. Jack and Marie took profound joy in the relationships they fostered with employees and felt great pride in seeing the lives of their associates flourish and grow. Jack was also Chairman of the Minster State Bank, served on the Minster School Board, and as President of Kiwanis.
After retirement and the sale of PSI, Jack and Marie moved to Portland, Oregon, where they spent the remainder of their lives running the Eiting Charitable Foundation, working at the ground-level to start, manage, and staff programs to improve the lives of impoverished people in indigenous communities in Central America. Their humanitarian work grew out of their close connection to the Society of the Precious Blood. During their retirement years, Jack and Marie deeply enjoyed their undying romance and their love for a growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack will be remembered for his entrepreneurial brilliance, his internal strength and boundless energy, the unique way he approached life, his overflowing generosity and loving heart, as well as his interminable optimism.
A Mass of celebration will be held Saturday, September 2nd at 9:30 A.M at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Minster.
The family welcomes all to join them and share stories of Jack's life on Friday, September 1st, from 3:00-8:00 P.M at Hogenkamp Funeral Home in Minster, Ohio.
Donations in his memory are welcome to be made to Holy Relic Shrine of Maria Stein.
