10 injured in truck-van accident

A 2017 Nissan passenger van was involved with a 2006 Dodge pickup in an accident at about 4:39 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Fox and Wourms roads southeast of Fort Recovery.

GIBSON TOWNSHIP - A Fort Recovery couple was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton and their seven children were taken to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater following a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon.

At 4:39 p.m., dispatch received a 911 call about a traffic accident at the intersection of Fox and Wourms roads southeast of Fort Recovery, according to a Mercer County Sheriff's Office news release.

David C. Koesters, 38, Fort Recovery, was reportedly driving a brown 2017 Nissan passenger van southbound on Wourms Road. David R. Garcia, 51, Fort Recovery, was driving a black 2006 Dodge pickup truck eastbound on Fox Road, the release states.

Garcia allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at Fox Road and Wourms Road and struck the Nissan van.

Koesters was transported by St. Henry Emergency Medical Services to Mercer County Community Hospital and was then airlifted to Miami Valley. His wife, Carrie Koesters, 35, the front seat passenger of the Nissan van, was transported by St. Henry EMS to Mercer Health and also airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital, according to the release.

Their seven children, ranging in age from 15 months to 10 years old, all passengers in the van, were transported by St. Henry EMS and Coldwater EMS to Mercer County Community Hospital for treatment, the release states.

Garcia was reportedly transported by Coldwater EMS to IU Health in Jay County, Indiana, for treatment.

The release did not indicate their conditions of any of the individuals in the accident.

The Mercer County Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene, and the crash remains under investigation, according to the release. Once completed, an investigation will be forwarded to the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Also assisting at the scene were Mercer County Sheriff's Office, Southwest Mercer Fire Department and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.
