Elizabeth Durnell
Elizabeth "Betty" Durnell, 91, of St. Marys died 8 p.m. Friday April 19, 2024 at Vancrest of St. Marys.
She was born August 3, 1932 in St. Marys to John S. and Lyda (Moeller) Lynch. On November 10, 1951 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, she married David P. Durnell, who died September 26, 1998.
Survivors include: son Timothy (Susan) Durnell of Rice, Wash.; daughter Mary Beth Durnell of Tiffin, Ohio; daughter Theresa (Leb) Kemp of Katy, Texas; son Michael (Kris) Durnell of Celina; 7 grandchildren: Jon Durnell, Christopher Durnell, Zachery Durnell, Josh Durnell, Ben Durnell, Beth Durnell, Sierra Prachyl; 4 great-grandchildren: Ellie Durnell, River Durnell, Lincoln Prachyl, Rhett Prachyl; sister Barbara Bubp of St. Marys; brother Robert (Sue) Lynch of St. Marys; sister-in-law Velma Lynch of Celina; former daughter-in-law Lisa Durnell of St. Marys; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by parents John and Lyda Lynch; husband David Durnell; brother Charles (Annabelle) Lynch; brother William Lynch; brother James (Willma) Lynch; sister Mary Ann Decker; sister Alice (David) Anderson; brother Joseph Lynch; brother Donald "Pete" (Janet) Lynch; brother Thomas "Timbuck" Lynch; and brother-in-law Bruce Bubp.
She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1950). For many years, she worked in customer service for Bud's Chevrolet in St. Marys, retiring at the age of 80. Prior work history includes Midwest Electric Cooperative, Durnell & Sons Jewelers, church secretary of Holy Rosary, Cardinal Food Market and decorating with Sherwin-Williams and St. Marys Decorating. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and its altar-rosary sodality. Her favorite pastimes included traveling, reading, playing card games and watching birds in her yard. She loved to dance and treasured the times spent gathered with her family and friends. Her personal ministry was sending get-well cards and sympathy cards.
Following the death of her husband, David, to cancer, Betty began a special devotion to St. Peregrine Laziosi (Patron Saint of persons with cancer). Each day, she would pray for any cancer patient she had on her list.
Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday April 27, 2024 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 511 E. Spring Street in St. Marys. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Catholic Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the Miller - Long & Folk Funeral Home 314 W. High Street in St. Marys. A family-led prayer service will commence at 7 p.m.
