Southerly winds will increase today ahead of an approaching cold front. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph can be expected with gusts of 35 to 45 mph at times this afternoon. Be sure to secure outdoor objects.

Pauline Steiner
Pauline Mae Steiner, a beloved resident of Rockford, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2024, at the age of 90.
Pauline was born on May 16, 1933, in Mercer County, and was the daughter of the late Harold J. and Laurena (Bollenbacher) Wendel. On February 22, 1953, Pauline married Paul Fred Steiner, who preceded her in death on October 6, 1988.
She spent her life caring for her family as a dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, and helping her husband farm. Pauline also enjoyed collecting bears. Pauline was a member of Mercer Methodist Church.
Pauline was the loving mother of Shirley (Robert) Green, Barb Steiner, and Linda Reed all of Rockford; Wanda (Dan) Ross of Willshire; and Deb (Patrick) Kohne of Berne, Ind.; cherished sister of Madonna Johnson of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and treasured grandmother to seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Wendel, step-brother, John Murphy, infant brother, Paul Wendel, and infant sister, Dolly Wendel.
Her life will be celebrated at a funeral service to be held on Monday May 13, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, 111 W. First St., Rockford, with Pastor Bill Halter officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering Pauline's life and sharing their memories. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.
