CELINA - Ross Dietz of Botkins shot a 2-under 70 to win the boys 16-18 division of the Hot Head Burritos Open as the Lima Junior Golf Association came to Celina Lynx on Tuesday.

Seth Grieshop of Shawnee was runner-up with a 72, while Minster's Louis Magoto tied Mathew Dealey of Crestview for third with a 73 and fellow Wildcat Bryce Prenger tied for fifth with Wayne Trace's Kyle Sutton with a 2-over 74.

"Started off not the best," Magoto said, "but on the back nine it came together. Down the final stretch I had a couple birdies, so I was very happy about that."

Golfers played through heat - the temperature hit 90 degrees by the time the last finishers reached the clubhouse - and humidity, but the top scores were a few strokes lower than last year's.

Dietz had an eagle on the par-4 first hole and played even the rest of the way. He birdied Nos. 9, 14, 15 and 18 to secure the two-shot win.

Grieshop was two strokes over through 17 holes and only shot two birdies, but he turned in an eagle on No. 18 to finish above Magoto and Dealey.

The third eagle from the top boys division belonged to Prenger on No. 6. After his second shot landed a couple feet left of the green, he chipped it onto the green and it rolled roughly 55-60 feet before dropping into the cup.

"Read the green, where it sloped, and chipped it in," Prenger said. "It was just a little bit right to left. I had a good shot."

That helped him shoot even-par on the front nine, and he was 1-over heading into 18 before struggling on the final green. He reached the green with a birdie chance, but three-putted for a bogey to drop from solo third to a tie for fifth.

"Just hit two bad putts," he said.

Minster's Louis Magoto placed third with a 1-over 73.

Magoto was 2-over on the front nine courtesy of a double-bogey on No. 7. He dropped three more strokes on the first two holes of the back nine before finding a groove down the stretch, birdieing four of the last six holes to climb back up to third.

He finished the day with six birdies, the most of the tournament.

"In the last few tournaments, my putting's been really bad," he said. "But I made a couple nice putts and I was getting the reads pretty good."

Magoto and Prenger also tied Grieshop for the best performance on par-5s, each shooting 3-under on the longest holes.

It was Magoto's fourth tournament of the summer and his best finish, topping a solo fourth at Moose Landing after he shot a 78 last Thursday. Those two events gave him nine points toward the 15 necessary to make the Tournament of Champions at Shawnee Country Club on July 29.

Before that, he tied for 15th at Colonial and for ninth in the summer's first tournament at Tamarac. But he noted that he had to play those early tournaments without a driver, after he'd broken his on the eve of last fall's state tournament and is still waiting for a replacement.

Tuesday, Magoto borrowed his brother's driver, and he cited his drive on the 367-yard No. 14 as his best shot of the day.

"It wasn't quite on the green, but it was on the fringe, and that was a par-4," he said. "So I could just two-putt for birdie."

Prenger collected his third top-five finish in five events, giving him seven points in the overall leaderboard.

Celina's Nick Steinbrunner takes a chip shot at Celina Lynx on Tuesday.

Celina's Nick Steinbrunner, playing in his first tournament of the summer, came into the stretch tied for third at 1-over thanks to back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15, but struggled on the last three holes.

He shot a 5 on No. 16 for double-bogey and recorded another double-bogey with a 6 on 17 before carding par on the final hole. That dropped him into a tie for 10th with a 6-over 78, matching Coldwater grad Ben Giere and Lehman Catholic's Henry Petersen.

Giere was at 2-over before dropping four strokes from Nos. 12-14. He recovered with a birdie on the 15th and closed out with three more pars.

Fort Recovery's Reece LeFevre tied for 13th with a 79 and Minster grad Jack Meyer was 15th with an 80. Brennan Steger of St. Marys shot an 82, Parkway's Rylan Lyons shot an 84, and Coldwater's Landon Knapke came in with an 86.

New Knoxville's John Gabel tied for 27th with an 88. St. Marys' Braylon Lampert shot 89. St. Henry's Zach Rindler finished at 91, while Minster's Reese Beair carded a 92, Fort Recovery's Caleb Smith shot 95 and St. Marys' Blake Dingledine finished at 98.

The girls 16-18 division only had five entrants, and Riverside's Zoey Merritt took an 11-stroke victory over Versailles' Ella Porter with an even-par 72.

New Bremen's Allison Trego marks her ball on the 18th green.

In the girls 15-and-under division, Coldwater's Alyssa Froning shot a 47 over nine holes to finish second behind Sidney's Delaney White. New Bremen's Allison Trego was fifth with a 59 and fellow Cardinal Samantha Manbeck shot a 72.

Owen Sommer took first in the boys 14-15 division with an 81, beating Shawnee's Sullivan Hasting and Ottawa-Glandorf's Alex Bellman by a stroke. Celina's Carter Kuess shot a 92, Minster's Max Voisard shot a 98. St. Marys' Cason Meinerding and Chace Luedeke shot 114 and 133, respectively.

Conner Clum won the boys 12-13 division with a 41 over nine holes. Fort Recovery's Camden LeFevre came in with a 45 to tie for third. St. Marys' Aidyn Johns and Coldwater's Louis Reichert each shot a 52, fellow Roughrider Scooby Bubp carded a 56, and Parkway's Carter Thompson shot a 58.
