Carolyn Custer
Carolyn Uvonne (Marsee) Custer joined her husband on the other side of this life on June 24, 2024, to begin her next big adventure.
Her life adventure began on June 9, 1942, in Pump Holler, Speedwell, TN when she was born to McKinley and Cora (Tinnel) Marsee. She was the youngest of 8 children; Roy (Dorothy) Marsee, Carlos (Sarah) Marsee, Sarah Cleo (Curt) Mayes, Lenis (Freda) Marsee, Tommie June (Alan) Southard, and Freddie Mae (Bill) Callow all of whom passed away before her. She is survived by one sister Emma Lou (Bill) Cain. As a child her family traveled from Tennessee to Ohio settling in Abanaka, OH just outside of Willshire OH, where she attended school until she was 17 years old. She then met and married the love of her life, Rolland (Rollie) Custer, who passed away in May of 2024. They remained married for nearly 65 years.
Carolyn and Rollie settled in Rockford, OH where they raised their children Steven (Dawn) Custer, Bruce Custer, and Karlene (Richard) Anderson. Her children kept her hopping from one event to another, all while caring for Bruce, who was a life-long kidney patient. She was a super-mom who juggled family, work, hospital and medical issues for Bruce, all while keeping the home fires burning. She never blinked an eye at life's challenges. Her motto was "I've got broad shoulders". Being brave for the entire family was what she did.
After the kids graduated, Carolyn, Rollie and Bruce moved to Urbana, OH to begin a new chapter in their lives. Her focus at that time was to turn the nearly empty nest into a great adventure for the two of them. They traveled the country, took many motorcycle trips, and spread their wings with a grand trip to visit family in Great Britain. After Rollie retired, they moved to their final destination of Homosassa, FL.
As grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, she began her adventure as "Granny" to Christopher (Katie) Kluge and their two children, Jonathan (Julie) Ellinger and their two children, Meghan (Steve) Timko and their four children, Jessica (TJ) Rouch and their two children, Kenneth Custer and his two children, and Jayde (Tyler) Guenin and their child with one on the way who will carry Carolyn's middle name to honor her. The love she had for her grandchildren was unmatched! She left a bit of herself with each one of them.
Carolyn lived a life of adventure wherever she went and always traveled with excitement in her heart. Now she will travel through eternity with her one true love. As she always said, "Let's go!"
Memorial services for Carolyn and Rollie will be held in Rockford, OH on July 18, 2024, at the church they were married in Olive Branch Church, 18568 OH-118, Ohio City, OH 45882. Service will be held from 5-8 pm.
