At left is James Zura Riley. Born in Deep Cut in 1865 to Calvin E. and Gabrilla Riley, he was a teacher, farmer, oil driller and Alaskan gold prospector before he was 33 years old. While in Alaska, he kept a detailed journal of his 15-man crew. Upon his return from Alaska, Zura went into the hardware business then banking. He resided at 130 E. Market St., Celina until his death in 1954. His daughter Lena Riley occupied the house until 1974 where, upon her death, the house was sold to the county for use as the Mercer County Historical Society.
