Man suspected of killing 1 is apprehended after manhunt

GREENVILLE- A man suspected of shooting and killing a woman on Thursday night in Greenville was captured following a brief manhunt.

Greenville police were dispatched to the 700 block of Martin Street about a female being shot at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to a Greenville Police Department press release.

Upon arrival, police discovered Brianne Otley, 34, of Greenville had suffered a gunshot wound, the release states. At 9:17 p.m. during life-saving measures, Otley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect Zachery S. Gilbert, 25, of Greenville, fled the area before the officers arrived, the release states. City police, assisted by the Darke County Sheriff's Office and Ohio State Highway Patrol, quickly established a perimeter near the shooting's location to locate Gilbert. He was found nearly two hours later at 10:27 p.m. several blocks north of the incident location.

Gilbert is being held without bond on murder charges at the Darke County Jail.

Officers were also assisted on the scene by the Greenville Fire Department, Greenville Township Rescue and Miami Valley Hospital CareFlight.
