Jane Thomes
Jane L. Thomes, 92, of Saint Marys died 6:40 P.M. Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Grande Lake Healthcare Center, where she had been admitted one week before.
She was born August 13, 1932, in Saint Marys, the daughter of Louis and Marie (Hoffman) Schmehl. She married John Robert Thomes on February 21, 1953, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1988.
She is survived by her daughter: Vicky (Roger) Dysert of Saint Marys; her son, Robert (Patty) Thomes of Saint Marys; her daughter Nicole (Jason) Sizemore of Indiana; by her 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Dorothy Pfeffley, Louise Davis and Alice Carpenter, and by her sister-in-law, Dottie Schmehl. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son, Richard Thomes; her grandson Matthew Dysert; her sisters Martha Coby, Marjorie Stienecke4; Carol Raymond and their spouses; by her brother, Robert Schmehl.
Jane was a graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School and the Lima Beauty Academy. She worked many years at different salons before opening her own shop "Jane's Beauty Shop" in Saint Marys. After moving to a smaller home she gave up her shop and worked for the Saint Marys City Schools as a custodian at Saint Marys Memorial High School for 10 years. Once again she retired but went to work again, this time at Chief Supermarket in Saint Marys. She worked in the deli, where she took pride in all the different salads she made and served.
Jane was a very caring person. She was always ready to give a helping hand to anyone in need. She adored children. She very much enjoyed playing BINGO and spending time with her BINGO friends. She also enjoyed watching the OSU Buckeyes and puttering in her small flower garden.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Jane was a member of Grace Church in Saint Marys.
Funeral rites will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, Pastor Bev Hurlburt, officiant. Private family burial rites will be held at Willow Grove Cemetery in New Bremen.
Friends may call from 10:00 A.M until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home, where memorial gifts may be given to Grace Church in Saint Marys.
