St. Marys and Minster punched their tickets to next week's boys state golf tournaments after qualifying at district matches on Thursday.
For the Roughriders, it will be the first trip to state as a team since 2006 while the Wildcats will be making their 12th trip and sixth consecutive.
St. Marys traveled to Maumee Bay State Park Golf Course for Division II district play. The battle for the two team spots proved to be a two-team contest between the Roughriders and Ottawa Hills. At the end of the day, the Green Bears won the district title with a round of 329. St. Marys was just six strokes back with a 335 for second to secure the second state spot. Ottawa-Glandorf was 11 strokes back of St. Marys in third at 346.
Blake Dingledine led St. Marys with an 81, good for seventh overall in the standings. WBL Golfer of the Year Brennan Steger and teammate Kadin Behr each shot an 84 to tie for 14th. Braylon Lampert shot an 86 with Hayden Roby carding an 87.
Upper Sandusky's Brock Montgomery took the district medalist honors and earned a trip to state as an individual after shooting a 1-over 73. The battle for the second and final individual spot came down to three golfers - Coldwater's Tyler Overman, Napoleon's Cohen Ford and Genoa's Issac Ewersen - after the trio each shot a 79.
Ewersen was eliminated on the first playoff hole and Overman won the second hole to claim the state berth.
At Stone Ridge in Bowling Green, Minster finished fourth to take the final team qualifying spot in Division III. Pettisville won the tournament witha 321 with Van Buren second at 323 and Kalida third at 327 with Minster shooting a 331 to finish 10 strokes ahead of Wayne Trace.
Louis Magoto and Bryce Prenger each shot 77 to lead Minster, tying for seventh overall. Reese Beair carded an 98 with Andrew Wiss shooting a 90 and Max Voisard finishing with a 93.
St. Henry finished 12th overall with a 368. Hudson Schmitz paced the Redskins with an 87. Logan Schmitz shot a 91 with Zach Rindler carding a 92. Keith Siefring and Jack Buschur rounded out the scorecard with 98 and 102, respectively.
Parkway's Eli Schumm finished the tournament with an 88.
Robert Nartker of Kalida was district medalist after shooting an even-par 72, three strokes ahead of runner-up Jake Schroeder of Van Buren. Old Fort's Evan Combs, Sandusky St. Mary's Blake Finneran and Wayne Trace's Kyle Sutton each shot a 76 to secure three of the four individual qualifying spots. The fourth and final spot went to a playoff, where St. John's Tyce McClain edged out Wayne Trace's Brady Rosswurm after each shot a 77.
The Division II tournament will be played at Firestone Country Club in Akron with the Division III tournament taking place at NorthStar in Sunbury.
