Matthew Schwieterman, Jr.
Matthew Henry Schwieterman, Jr., 77, Coldwater, passed away peacefully at his home on October 6, 2024.
He was born January 6, 1947, in Celina, to the late Matthew Sr. and Coletta (Luthman) Schwieterman. He married his first wife, the late Joyce (Hierholzer), on May 15, 1971, who passed away in 1992. He married his second wife, Dolores "Dee" (Culver), on October 13, 1995, who passed away in 2014. He is survived by his fiancée, Carol (Clune) Beckman, Coldwater.
Also surviving are his five children, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Matthew Schwieterman, Celina; Misty (John) Cox, Tipp City, Addison, Josh (Kristin), Charley, Chandler and Joel (Elly), Chloe; Kyle (Michelle) Schwieterman, Columbus, Rowan; Josh (Stacy) Schwieterman, Coldwater, Brynlee, Ryker, Oaklyn, Breckyn, Wynslow; and Jesse (Loraine) Schwieterman, Coldwater, Elise, Cara, Greysen and Culver.
His surviving siblings are Jean (Bob) Neumeister, Dayton, Joan (Bill) Geise, Coldwater, Marilyn Schwieterman, Coldwater, Teresa Rose, Montezuma, Trish (Ken) Wrightsman, Surprise, AZ, Ralph (Jane) Schwieterman, Coldwater, Romie (Brenda) Schwieterman, Coldwater, Chris (Jerry) Schulte, Chickasaw and numerous nieces and nephews.
Surviving Hierholzer family members include Joan (Mark) Kunk, Versailles, Julius (Mary) Hierholzer, St. Henry, Jody (Dan) Lange, St. Henry and June (Dale) Leistenschneider, St. Henry.
Surviving Culver family members include Dee's children, Heather Johnson, Thad Slone, Jason Slone and Shanda Stammen, and her siblings, Ronda (Jim) Uhlenhake, Judy Eblen, Mary (Larry) McMurray, Fred Culver and Brenda (John) Kaiser.
Also surviving are Carol's children and 8 grandchildren: Chris (Buck) Muhlenkamp, Sue (Scott) Bills, Gayle (Lenny) Kahlig and Tricia (Zak) Sovek and the Clune family.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Christopher Schwieterman, Phyllis Rose and Kenneth Schwieterman and in-laws, Rosella "Toots" and Walter Hierholzer, Cornelia "Nelly" Culver, Jeffrey Hierholzer, Betty Hierholzer, Thomas Rose, Doug Eblen, Doug Uhlenhake and niece, Anne Schwieterman-Fullmer.
Matthew graduated from Coldwater High School in 1965. He attended the University of Dayton and left to join the family business and was the President of Matt Schwieterman Inc. for many years. He was a member of the Army National Guard, was an ACME baseball coach, a proud member of the undefeated 1961 Coldwater Football team, an Eldora Speedway Booster Club member, a member of the Holy Trinity Church and Knights of Columbus, a booster of the Coldwater Cavaliers and a fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds. Over the years, he enjoyed drumming in a dance band, bowling, boating, golfing, reading, riding his motorcycle, finding local ice cream establishments, traveling and attending his grandkids' activities.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.
Friends may call on Sunday, October 13 from 1PM to 5PM and from 9AM to 10AM on Monday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coldwater Memorial Park or the Coldwater High School Athletic Boosters.
