1 killed in suspected road rage I-75 wreck

From staff reports

AUGLAIZE COUNTY - A 44-year-old Lima man was killed after his vehicle struck a semitrailer that was forced to stop on Interstate 75 when another vehicle came to a halt in front of it.

The three-vehicle accident occurred at about 5:08 p.m. Tuesday on I-75 northbound near milepost 114 in Duchouquet Township, according to a news release from the Wapakoneta Post of the State Highway Patrol.

Three vehicles were traveling northbound on I-75, a 2019 Kia Soul driven by Bailey M. Luckett, 24, of Lima; a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Jesus M. Perez, 50, of Hazleton, Pennsylvania; and a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica driven by David V. Shutt, 44, of Lima, according to the release.

Luckett stopped on the roadway in front of the Freightliner, forcing it to stop, a preliminary investigation shows. Luckett then reportedly exited her Kia and confronted Perez.

The Chrysler driven by Shutt then struck the Freightliner, after which the Kia fled the scene.

Shutt sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

The Kia was later located and stopped by a trooper with the Lima Post of the State Highway Patrol. Neither Luckett nor Perez were injured, per the release. Perez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash but Shutt was not.

The newspaper was unable to obtain further details about the accident from the Wapakoneta Post of the State Highway Patrol, including whether charges had been filed against Luckett.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the State Highway Patrol.
