1 man, 44, killed in wreck

2 injured passengers, both minors, survive

A Fort Recovery man was killed Sunday afternoon in a one-vehicle accident on State Route 49. Two youths were injured.

FORT RECOVERY- A 44-year-old Fort Recovery man was killed and his two minor passengers were airlifted with serious injuries following a one-vehicle accident on Sunday afternoon in Gibson Township.

At about 3:04 p.m., Kimo Bechtol was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram Truck northbound on State Route 49 when he went left of center, struck a guardrail and went down into an embankment near Fox Road, according to county sheriff's office chief deputy Doug Timmerman.

Bechtol was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, a 13-year-old male and an 8-year-old female were transported with serious injuries to Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater then airlifted to an unknown area hospital, per Timmerman.

Responding to the scene were Mercer County Sheriff's deputies, Southwest Mercer Fire District, Burkettsville Fire Department, Careflight and Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers.

The accident remains under investigation.
