Fort Recovery added to Division VII playoffs

The first night of the 2024 state football playoffs will feature two games with Midwest Athletic Conference schools facing off, one of which was scheduled late Sunday night.

In Division VII Region 28, Marion Local was set to open defense of its state title by hosting Lockland, but the school opted out of the tournament due to injuries. By Ohio High School Athletic Association rules, the 17th-seeded team in the region was then asked if they wanted to play. Cedarville initially agreed make the trip to Maria Stein, but then decided against it on Sunday afternoon. After the 18th-placed team in the region, New Miami, opted out, Fort Recovery, the 19th seeded team, accepted, allowing the Indians to continue their season on Friday at Booster Stadium in Maria Stein.

The other Division VII Region 28 MAC vs. MAC matchup has New Bremen traveling to St. Henry for the team's second meeting of the year. In the team's first meeting on Oct. 18, St. Henry won 21-14 in New Bremen.

Minster, the second seed in Region 28, hosts Manchester.

Coldwater opens the Division VI Region 24 playoffs at Cavalier Stadium on Friday with Covington coming to town.

Three other MAC teams will be playing playoff openers on Friday. Versailles travels to Indians Lake for a Division V Region 20 matchup. Anna, the third seed in Division VI Region 24, hosts the Perry Commodores. Delphos St. John's makes the trip to McGuffey to face Upper Scioto Valley in a Division VII Region 26 matchup.

Celina will be on the road for the opening of the Division III Region 12 playoffs as the Bulldogs travel to Cincinnati to face the Rockets of Archbishop McNicholas. St. Marys, also in Region 12, are at home to face the Miami Trace Panthers from Washington Court House.

The Minster girls punched their ticket for a chance to win a third straight Division III state cross country title, seventh in eight season and 17th in state history after winning the Tiffin regional championship at Hedges Boyer Park on Saturday.
