A weak system moves into the area later today, providing light snow accumulations. With cold conditions in place, snow will accumulate on roadways, especially after sunset. Accumulations of less than one inch are expected, but slick conditions may continue into Friday morning due to the cold conditions.
Motorists should exercise extra caution through the evening and overnight hours. What appears to be wet roads may actually be patches of ice, particularly if you drive over a bridge. Slow down and allow extra distance between you and other vehicles.

Divisions VI and VII All-Ohio Football Honors

Accolades for area players

Marion Local linebacker Drew Lause (34) was named the Division VII state Defensive Player of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association on Monday.

State champions Marion Local and Coldwater and regional finalist Minster came away with high honors as the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association announced its All-Ohio teams in Divisions VI and VII on Monday.

Division VII champion Marion Local linebacker Drew Lause, the Midwest Athletic Conference's and Northwest District Defensive Player of the Year, added the state Defensive Player of the Year as the Flyers posted 10 shutouts in going 16-0 this season with no opposing team scoring more than 14 points.

Minster quarterback Brogan Stephey (12) was named the Division VII state Offensive Player of the Year by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association on Monday.

Minster quarterback Brogan Stephey, who was the MAC and district Offensive Player of the Year, took home state Offensive Player of the Year honors as the Wildcats went 11-3, losing to state champs Marion Local twice and Coldwater once, with Stephey finishing with 2,644 passing yards and 26 touchdowns and 1,059 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

Five other Flyers joined Lause on the first team. Quarterback Justin Knouff, receiver Victor Hoelscher, offensive lineman Kyle Ungruhn and kicker Carson Bills were part of the offense while defensive lineman Adam Winner joined Lause on the defense.

Minster offensive lineman Will Frimel joined Stephey on the first team.

On the honorable mention, Marion Local's Parker Hess, Colten Ahrens, Isaac Muhlenkamp, Bryant Meier and Ryan Homan were joined by Minster's Dylan Heitkamp, New Bremen's Grant Dicke and St. Henry's Charlie Werling. Delphos St. John's Josh Mueller was also a honorable mention selection.

Jeromesville Hillsdale's Trevor Cline, Marion's opponent in the Division VII title game, Columbus Grove's Andy Schaefer and Conotton Valley's Derek O'Hara were named state co-Coaches of the Year in Division VII.

Coldwater placed four players on the Division VI first team. Quarterback Baylen Blockberger, linebacker Cody Depweg, defensive back Mason Welsch and punter Owen Kunk earned honors. Kicker Bryce Couchot and defensive lineman Will Barry were named to the second team.

Anna linebacker Noah Aufderhaar was named to the first team on defense with running back Zach Osborn earning second team honors. Quarterback Alex Shappie was named to the third team.

Galion Northmor quarterback AJ Bower was named the Offensive Player of the Year in Division VI with Dalton defensive lineman Matthew Heatwole earning Defensive Player of the Year. Coach of the Year honors was split between Fairbanks' Dave Carroll and Kirtland's Tiger LaVerde.

Divisions IV and V honors will be announced today. Divisions II and III will be announced Wednesday and Division I on Thursday.
