Grand Lake Fishing Report

Taking a break until April

By Matt Tuttle

Good day everyone.

Everything in life comes to an end. Whether it's a season, a year, a month, a week, or a day.

Seasons are particularly important to me as it marks transitions in the fishing world. It's always a change in where the fish will be, where the fish will hide, or how they act or respond to bait.

I know when it is March, we will start to see a glimpse of Spring here and there.

When it's April, we will start to see the signs of more warm days and days where winter tries to hold on, but then, we see buds on trees.

Then one day in late April early May everything is green and the fish are biting and all the life is back in our world. Then, it's hot and the pools and lakes are full of people enjoying all of the summer activities.

Then it's September and the evenings start to cool. Then it's November and the days are as warm as the September nights.

Now, here we are in December. It's cold with snow flurries and the lake is froze, which marks the end of the 2024 fishing report for me.

We will take a break, and I will be back in April. It's bittersweet, I look forward to the break, but I miss sharing with you my time in the outdoors.

I want to leave one more report: a few safety tips for ice fishing.

Always carry and use a spud bar, to make sure the ice is safe, carry ice picks with you everywhere.

Crappies suspend in the middle of the channels. I use hand tied jigs a lot during the winter.
