Celina senior Mylee Sapp, seated center, will attend Ohio Northern University and play volleyball for the Polar Bears. Seated with Mylee are her parents Cassie and Brad Sapp. Standing from left are Celina coaches Amy Sutter and Christie Binkley, Mylee's brothers Brady and Logan Sapp and Celina athletic director Derek Wenning.

CELINA - Mylee Sapp needed just a visit to the Ohio Northern campus to know she was going to be a Polar Bear.

The Celina volleyball standout will attend the school in Ada and help the NCAA Division III program continue its success.

"When I stepped on campus, it felt like home," said Sapp, who will major in early education. "The volleyball team is very welcoming (and) the staff is very helpful."

The Polar Bears went 20-9 last season and finished 5-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference to earn a spot in the conference quarterfinals, losing to John Carroll. ONU last won the OAC in 2019, which was the last time the team reached the NCAA Tournament.

"They've been successful in the past and (are) ready to continue (the success)," said Sapp.

Sapp was a presence on the attack for Celina this past season. The Bulldogs were just 8-15 overall thanks to playing a very tough non-league schedule; they were 6-3 in the Western Buckeye League to finish fourth overall in league play.

Sapp appeared in all 74 sets this season for Celina, leading the team with 3.8 kills per set with a team-high 54 blocks and 11 aces. Sapp earned first team honors in both the WBL and District 8 Coaches Association voting and earned a spot on the All-Star Senior Match roster.

In three varsity seasons for Celina, Sapp finished with 765 kills (3.3 per set), 176 blocks and 46 aces.

"I had a great experience at Celina High School. I learned so many things from so many coaches," said Sapp. "I'm really excited to put all that work into Ohio Northern."
