Edward Gigandet
Edward Leonard Gigandet, age 85, of St. Rt. 66, Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes Monday evening, January 20, 2025, at the Wilson Health Hospital in Sidney, Ohio.
He was born February 12, 1939, in Frenchtown, Ohio, to the late Leonard & Florence (Monnin) Gigandet. On June 23, 1962, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie, Edward married Doris (Sanders) Gigandet who survives.
Also surviving are four children: Deborah & Dennis Trzeciak of Galena, Kenneth & Diane Gigandet of Fort Loramie, Dennis & Jill Gigandet of Fort Loramie and Victoria & Raymond Siwek of Sidney; Ten grandchildren: Andy & Brittany Trzeciak, Emily Trzeciak & Sebastian Leukel, Eric Trzeciak, Justin, Doug and Megan Gigandet, Lukas & Danielle Gigandet, Logan Gigandet, Amanda & R.C. Tumbleson and Ashley Rolland along with four great-grandchildren: Averi, Adeyah, Izzy and Arrow Tumbleson; one brother, Roger & Carol (Bruns) Gigandet of Versailles and sisters & brothers-in-law: Elfrieda Sanders of Fort Loramie, Mary Alice Sanders of Fort Loramie, Marilyn Huwer of North Star and Dennis Bruns of Cranberry Prairie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers & sisters-in-law: Bernard "Bud", Clemens and Lawrence Sanders, Elizabeth Bruns and Victor Huwer.
Mr. Gigandet served in the US Army during the Berlin Crisis. In 2000, he retired from the Minster Machine Company where he had been employed for 38 years. He had also been engaged in farming until retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he had been Mass coordinator, usher and assistant to the Priest for many years. Edward also belonged to the Fort Loramie American Legion Post 355 and the Versailles Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 2347.
He was a long-time organizer of the Lake Loramie Fall Festival where he had also been a park volunteer and staff coordinator for over 40 years. Edward was a member of the Threshing Machine Crew at Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association in Portland, IN., and had been the director of Tractor Area of Greenville Farm Power of the Past as well as chairperson of Buckeye Farm Antiques, Inc. Power Show. He participated in many Miami County Antique Power Association Events. In his leisure, Edward especially enjoyed camping and restoring antique tractors and farm equipment.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. John W. Tonkin presiding. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery.
Family and friends may call Friday, 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie.
Memorials may be made to the Lake Loramie Improvement Association or the Fort Loramie Fire and Rescue Departments.
