John Long
John W. Long, 73, of St. Marys, OH died 3:00 a.m. Wednesday February 5, 2025 at his residence.
He was born February 9, 1951 in Piqua, OH to C. Richard and Marilyn J. (Ward) Long. On November 24, 1983 (Thanksgiving Day) at St. Paul's UCC in St. Marys, he married Marlene R. Krieg, who survives.
Also survived by: son Nathan Long of Waldo, OH; son Victor (Kaylee) Long of St. Marys, OH; son Dr. David (Angie) Long of Olmsted Twp., OH; 9 grandchildren: Liam Long, Mason Long, Colby Long, Reece Long, Carsen Long, Allie Long, Alexa Long, Jackson Long, Andrew Long; sister Cindy (Joe) Walkup of Wapakoneta, OH; sister Sue (William) Cheslock of St. Marys, OH; sister Melissa (Branch) Goodson of Greenville, NC; brother-in-law Harold (Doris) Krieg of New Bremen, OH; sister-in-law Patricia Wilson of New Bremen, OH; sister-in-law Jean (Ron) Olberding of Minster, OH; brother-in-law Donald (Dorothy) Krieg of Wapakoneta, OH; brother-in-law Marvin Krieg of New Bremen, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents C. Richard and Marilyn J. Long; parents-in-law Lionel and Ruth Krieg; brother-in-law Karl Krieg; sister-in-law Cindy Krieg; brother-in-law Larry Krieg; and brother-in-law Joe Wilson.
He was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School (Class of 1969). He then attended the Michigan State University and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science.
John spent his career as a funeral director and embalmer for the Long & Folk Funeral Homes in St. Marys and Wapakoneta, OH. A skilled restorative artist, he utilized his abilities to restore dignity to the deceased and provide comfort to many, many families who had suffered the loss of a loved one.
His favorite pastimes included working on mechanical and electrical projects, and cooking for his family. A strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment, he liked collecting guns and ammunition. Through the years, he had owned all types of vehicles, but was especially proud of his 1954 MG Midget Series TF Roadster. Watching the news and following politics were a daily source of entertainment and aggravation for him.
More than anything else, he was fiercely proud of his children and grandchildren.
Rites are scheduled to begin 10:30 a.m. Friday February 14, 2025 at the Miller - Long & Folk Funeral Home 314 W. High Street in St. Marys. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
Visitation 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
