John Houts
John Michael Houts, age 76, of Celina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Mercer Health in Coldwater, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 26, 1948, in Celina to the late Alfred and Rita (Holtman) Houts. On May 22, 1971, he married the love of his life, Roxanne (Hoselton) Houts, who survives in Celina.
John is also survived by his children, Tressie Sigmond of Celina and Randy (Stephanie) Houts of Cridersville; a sister, Patricia Balster of Celina; five grandchildren, Zach, Brooke (Jordan), Cody, Rosemary, and Trevor; two great-grandchildren, Baylor and Korbin; two brothers-in-law, Chuck (Nancy) Hoselton of Union City, Tennessee, and Wayne Fisher of Celina; and a sister-in-law, Sandy (Pat) Gillis of Fishers, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Chrissy Houts (October 19, 2002); a brother, Ronald (Betsy) Houts; a brother-in-law, Vern Balster; and a sister-in-law, Trudy Fisher.
A 1967 graduate of Immaculate Conception Catholic High School, John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart. He dedicated over 50 years of service to Goodyear Tire and Rubber in St. Marys and also worked as a school bus driver for Celina City Schools for many years.
John was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina American Legion Post #210, and Celina VFW Post #5713. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards on Wednesday nights at the VFW, and cheering on his grandchildren at their school activities. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family and will be deeply missed by those who loved him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina, with Fr. Prashanth Bandanadham officiating. The family will also receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Burial will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, where military honors will be conducted by the Celina American Legion and Celina VFW. Following the burial, the family invites everyone to the Celina VFW for a luncheon and a continued celebration of John's life.
In honor of John's service and sacrifice, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
