St. Marys and Fort Recovery fell short of their goal of a Division II girls state bowling championship after the teams competed at the state tournament at HP Lanes in Columbus on Friday.
The Roughriders, which reached the semifinals of the championship round last season, had a strong qualifying round to earn a spot in the eight-team championship round. St. Marys bowled a 3,598 for the third-best qualifying score to move into the quarterfinals against Fairport Harding.
Fairport won the opening game of the best-of-five baker game series 181-170. St. Marys came back to tie the match in game two with a 201-155 contest, but Fairport took the next two games 172-162 and 174-162 to win the match 3-1 and end St. Marys' season.

Kallie McKinley was high-roller for St. Marys with a 588 series to finish 16th overall. Kaleigh Caywood added a 586. Ali Kable bowled a 560 to finish 25th. Braylee Mullins bowled a 513 and Kylee Smith added a 512 to finish 45th and 46th.
Fort Recovery, which just missed the top eight last season in its first-ever team appearance, finished with a final score of 3,268, 136 pins out of eighth place to finish 12th overall.
Deanna Brown tied for 20th with a 571 series to lead the Indians. Ella Schoen added a 528 to finish 39th. Kayla Heitkamp had a 489 series to finish tied for 60th. Lilah Thien added a 472 series for 72nd place.

Fairport Harding advanced to the championship match, but Urbana came away with the victory in four games to capture the state championship.
Versailles, which shared the Midwest Athletic Conference overall title with Fort Recovery, finished ninth with a final score of 3,370, 34 pins behind eighth-place Mechanicsburg. Danielle Francis earned second team All-Ohio honors in finishing ninth with a 623 series.
Napoleon's Airanna Kiessling was state medalist after bowling a 703 series. East Liverpool's Addison Rudibaugh was runner-up with a 668.
The boys state tournament, featuring Coldwater, Fort Recovery and St. Henry, begins this morning at 10:45 a.m.
